Portsmouth, NH—Portsmouth School District and Socially Savvy are pleased to announce their partnership to provide a social business education curriculum for students.
The program will commence with a train-to-teach program with teachers in October focused on digital competencies required by the New Hampshire Career & Technical Education (CTE) standards. This innovative education curriculum will provide students with the needed social business skills to compete in the connected economy.
Started by Rachel Mezzatesta and Mark Hewitt, Socially Savvy was inspired by President Obama’s 2011 State of the Union address in which he stated, “We need new ideas, technologies, and approaches applied to existing problems.” The original mission focused on assisting Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan at a time when the unemployment rate for Veterans was significantly higher than the national average. The organization’s focus has evolved to include corporate, education and government sectors.
As stated by Mark Hewitt, “Socially Savvy is focused on helping students and the United States lead from the front in the digital economy.” Rachel Mezzatesta also adds, “In the future, we will work to assist other groups such as those that are unemployed and college graduates to succeed in their job search.”
Diane Canada, the CTE Director in the Portsmouth School District, agrees and shared, “We are thrilled to continue the tradition of CTE education excellence. Our goal is to focus on students and continue to strengthen and expand teaching and school leadership opportunities.”
